FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a page with the answers to the questions I receive most frequently about my lessons and teaching. If you still have questions please feel free to contact me with the information provided here.

What ages do you teach?

I teach all ages, but am most familiar working with children, teens, and young adults as that is what I have had most experience in.

How do you format your lessons?

My lessons are formatted based on the needs of the student, according to how quickly they are learning, what they want to learn, their age (i.e younger students may receive stickers and small treats with permission of the parents as means of incentive), and what I believe will be most appropriate to the development of their learning in technique, theory, and execution. Pace and work-load of recommended work is dependent upon what the students feel most comfortable with, in order to allow learning to be a happy, fun, and stress free environment with an appropriate level of challenge.

Typically I teach using the Faber Piano Adventures series with occasional outside works. More info here.

How much do you charge per lesson?

I charge $30.00 per half hour lesson, which is recommended to occur once a week. If students would like to request longer or shorter lessons, please contact me and we can discuss that as I am happy to make adjustments to meet your needs and your schedule.  Contact information provided here.

Do you accept cash, PayPal, or checks?

I accept all, but will need a payment plan form filled out here.

Where do you teach?

I teach out of the homes of my students unless requested otherwise. I do live with various family members who have been respectful to be quiet during lessons and to avoid the lesson area, but it should be noted they do move as they need to and that we have three yorkshire dogs in our household (who are always locked up or put away during lesson times) for whoever may have allergies.

As I drive, I am more than happy to come to you and teach lessons in the home of the student. I am in one of the neighborhoods near Independence High School in Frisco, TX.  For any concerns please contact me. Contact information provided here.

What is your experience?

I have been trained in piano privately since I was six years old and have been playing piano for 17 years. I hold a strong understanding of music theory and ability and work with beginner through intermediate students.

I have taught piano privately for 8 years now and have taught over 60 students on my own over the past few years.

Do you have any cancellation/missed lesson fees?

While I never charge for missed or cancelled lessons, I do ask that out of courtesy if a lesson is going to be missed I have an hour's notice.

Do I need to buy anything for my student?

Yes. While I will provide you with some outside material, the Faber Piano Adventure lesson curriculum is the one I follow and will need to be purchased by the student/parent. All that is required is the main Lesson book at the appropriate level.

I buy and provide notebooks, stickers, treats, and toys for younger students. More Information Here.

Do you work from other piano curriculums?

By request of student or parent, I will work from other curriculums, but students/parents must purchase their lesson books on their own.

Do you give group classes?

Unfortunately, no. I teach privately one-on-one with my students.

Is piano all you teach?

As of now, yes. I am looking into opening up more curriculums in the future, however.

Do you teach outside of Frisco or Mckinney?

While I will not turn down anyone who would like me to teach in their home beyond Frisco/Mckinney, I prefer not to teach farther than the aforementioned cities. A driving fee will be added to the cost of lessons if you are outside of Frisco or Mckinney.
